ASSASSIN'S QUEST is the third and final book in the FARSEER series. I gave the first book ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE a rave review last year.

I haven't reviewed the second book ROYAL ASSASIN, but it was very enjoyable.

Definitely read the first two books first- This is not a work that you want to jump right into the middle of. SO If you haven't read the earlier books

DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER

it will spoil the previous book for you

This book continues the adventures of FitzChivalry the bastard son of a Prince of the Six Duchies. As the book opens, Fitz "rises from the dead" after being tortured by his Uncle Regal, who has usurped the throne after killing his father, King Shrewd. His brother Verity- (The rightful successor) has disappeared on a quest of his own, giving Regal the opportunity to do as he wishes. In the mean time, the costal settlements and keeps of the Six Duchies are raided and destroyed by invaders, which Regal ignores while essentially raping his "own" lands.

After several false starts, and an aborted attempt to assassinate Regal, Fitz goes in search of Verity. Several of the more intriguing characters of the previous books are further developed in this tale, and a few interesting new ones are introduced. Beyond that- "I ain't tellin".

The first dozen or so pages were a little bit hard for me to get through, but persevere- Once the story gets going it is excellent. And the last hundred pages were even better. I got a lump in my throat a couple of times, laughed out loud a few times and cheered a few times too. Until the last ten pages or so, it looked like there might be another book required to finish the tale, but in the end it is all tied up nicely.

This entire series is a MUST READ for fantasy fans.
