I really wanted to be able to write a good review for this movie because I adore Sigourney Weaver AND Winona Ryder, and ALIENS (the second movie in this series) is one of my favorite action- adventure- science fiction movies of all time.

Well, in this fourth Alien movie, Ripley (Weaver) is cloned from a drop of blood she left behind before being immolated in Alien 3. If you thought Ripley was tough in the last two movies, wait 'till you see her now. She looks very tough and buff here, really terrific for being ~50 years old. The Lady has an ATTITUDE. The attitude probably has to do with having some alien DNA mixed up with hers in the cloning process. She is all Ripley on the outside, but about half alien on the inside.

Winona Ryder is very cute and elfin, spends about five minutes as a plot device, but spends the rest of the movie as if she were an extra. Very disappointing for the fans of this talented actress. Ron Perlman plays a human beast that is a departure from his best known beast character. He is one of the "good guys" in this movie, but his character is very crude, mean, and not overly intelligent.

The foolish humans decide to try to breed the aliens- this time it is the military, seeking to make a new breed of warrior for "pacification" of rebellious colonies etc. Well, as you will guess: BIG MISTAKE!

The Aliens run amok on the military/science space station, kill off almost all the military and science guys, leaving Ripley, Winona, and a few others to try to escape from the space station, which is incidentally heading for Earth.

That in a nutshell is it. The movie really suffers from poor writing and poor direction. Ridley Scott or James Cameron at the helm probably would have made this a much better movie. The special effects are fairly decent, as is the acting. I won't go so far as to say the movie was boring, but several times I was forced to call it stupid.

If you want to watch ALIEN RESURRECTION-wait till it gets to the bargain theaters or to video.
